Goa is simply lovely. It was a Portuguese colony until the Indian army invaded in 1961. And the cities and town across the state are charming with colonial buildings, which are all painted in lovely Easter egg colors and topped with terracotta tiles made out of the richly red Goan soil. The people in Goa appear to enjoy a noticeably better standard of living than elsewhere in India. It is rather bittersweet that the fat people here, including fat kids (a rarity elsewhere), and diabetes medications prominently displayed in the local drugstore are sure signs of prosperity. We are told that Goa is wealthy from mining and tourism. We certainly understand why people come here. Beautiful beaches. Warm-hearted people. Cheap and scrumptious food and booze. Yep. We are sold.
