One week to go and I am not crazy

November 10 is the day of departure. We have our tickets and we are heading out. Our bags are being packed and unpacked and repacked to get them as small and light as possible. The itinerary has evolved into an even more exciting trip. We are going to be stopping in Dubai for two nights, on our way to Mumbai. (I am furiously researching the UAE's drug laws to make sure that my perfectly legitimate over-the-counter and prescription drugs do not get me thrown in jail for 4 years!) Then, we will travel over land for two months along the coast of India from Mumbai to Chennai. And then we will spend one month in Thailand/Cambodia/Laos combined. Then, two weeks in Perth and along the West Coast of Australia. I also am very excited to have added two weeks in New Zealand on my own (Charlie's already been), while Charlie continues surfing in Australia. Then, Charlie and I will head off to Tahiti for a long weekend. Then, three weeks in Costa Rica. So excited. (By the way, I can recommend a genius travel agent, if anyone wants one - Kapani at STA travel in Westwood. He is fabulous.)

Another positive note. I have started taking the anti-malarial drug Lariam and have experienced no serious side effects so far. Seriously, it had me worried. This stuff causes side effects that include "anxiety, mood changes, depression that may include thoughts of hurting yourself, hallucinations, restlessness, or confusion," and should not be taken it if you have any psychiatric disorders. It is nice to have confirmation that this does not include me, at least so far.... :)

  3. How fun! Only one itinerary recommendation--that flight from NZ stops in the Cook Islands as well as Tahiti--skip Tahiti & check out Aitutaki instead. And do you have a date you HAVE to be back? Because you are going to want to stretch this out to at least a year. :)

  4. Thanks, Emily! We will look into the stop in the Cook Islands. We were thinking about going to Fiji instead, but it is at the tail end of the monsoon season. Our travel agent, Kapani, is actually Fijian and told us that Tahiti somehow is outside of the weather pattern for monsoons that time of year.
