30 km per hour

Charlie and I traveled from Mysore to Wayanad animal sanctuary on a local bus. Total distance was approximately 100 kilometers. The journey took over 3 hours, and left me again stunned at the total lack of infrastructure in India. On the Lonely Planet map, the road we took is marked as "the major highway." As we drove further from Mysore, the 4 lanes turned into 2 and then 1. The paved road became more and more pot-holed, before turning into gravel and then just dirt.

The countryside is absolutely stunning and, for this reason alone, made the trip worth it.
